In our professional world of software development, it is very common to hear someone ask, “What is Agile?” People often debate its definition using terms like mindset, culture, leadership style, methodology, and group of practices. While all of these are valid, they can be difficult to explain to a newcomer.
After researching various sources, I found that the simplest definition of Agile is:
"The ability to move quickly and easily."
Therefore, the definition of Agile can be thought of as: How fit you are – physically, mentally, or in any other way.
Many people use Agile and Scrum interchangeably, but this is incorrect. If Agile is about fitness, then Scrum is about how to get fit. In personal life, fitness can be achieved through yoga, jogging, or gym workouts. Similarly, organizations achieve Agile fitness through frameworks like Scrum, Kanban, and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
What do you do to stay fit? What is your current fitness level? Agile fitness is an ongoing journey, and organizations that fail to adapt risk falling behind their competitors.
Stay fit, stay Agile, and embrace continuous improvement!
